4th Week Update

The Crew: They have been very busy up there this past week. They are putting trim around the windows, the facia is going up on the eaves, and the hardi board makes a huge difference in visualizing the final look (see pictures). They have also been checking things off their list from the inspector so that they can be ready for the re-inspection on Tuesday, July 1st.

The Fam: The mezzanine level is done...yeah. We also made a small dent in the huge pile of rocks and dirt on the river side of the cabin. We will need to redistribute that dirt asap.

Upcoming work: The outside will be ready for us to start painting this weekend. We will need to decide on colors asap. My dad and I will work on making sure we have consensus. Plus we will need to move furniture out asap as well.

Other random updates: We found some bead board paneling for the ceiling and the wainscoting at butterfield lumber. My dad and I will be making some final decisions on that this week. I will be ordering another storage unit so that we can clear out the cabin again to make way for an easier dry walling and flooring process.

Here are my thoughts about the cabin color scheme, as no matter what is selected I will be there with a brush in hand and beers in the cooler.

The charm of the “old” red and white is what pops into my mind when I think of the cabin; of course I have never seen it dressed any differently. The white and red or shades of white and red say “Lewis Family Cabin” to me (also a little Utah team spirit). The simple scheme looks like a cabin, as I am sure that most people would be unlikely to paint the homes white and red.

The idea of building the colors off of the rocks in the fire place is intriguing and would be something I can only really imagine now.

However, it seems logical since the fireplace is the un-official center piece of the cabin so why not build off of that.

Too bold? The cabin will hopefully not look like “Santa’s Summer Home” that is currently under construction by the river.

Too bland? The cabin will hopefully not look the same as all of the other cabins and the current trend faux earthy house tones. It’s a cabin so take some chances!

Most importantly it is just paint and it can be changed in a year or two if the selected scheme turns out to be better in theory.

Keep Rockin' in a Free World!
